Grand Teton National Park, WY
Fireworks of cow’s parsnip
explode along streams in the forest,
shot out of tall stalks in wide rings
of lace rosettes.
They dress in white their whole
blooming life until they age,
turning pink at petal tips, becoming
rich maroon as they go to seed.
Don’t ever say it’s too late
Don’t think you’re done
Or past your prime.
Another phase may be
just around the corner,
bursting into colors you never knew
were hidden within your stalk.
Just beyond your best bloom.
