Cabrillo National Monument, CA
Like driftwood that took
the wild journey, trusted its life
to ocean buoyancy, traveled
the secrets of salt and water.
Barkless and blanched,
how it longs for stability,
stripped of all it gave
for the price of adventure.
I want to feel that shiny and smooth
from being tossed in powerful waves;
pulled down and washed up,
until finally arriving at the shore.
Then, I shall know
what it means to rest and be still
where destiny of land
meets dance of ocean.
